| Does anyone know of a program that will allow me to access a compressed archive (gzip,bzip, etc) like it was a seperate filesystem. I thought I saw something that would do this a while back, but I've been unable to track anything down. |

| Midnight Commander (emerge mc) allows you to do that. Just hit enter on selected file and there you go. |

| Actually if I remember correctly, the project I saw was a kernel module that would be able transparently compress/decompress archives -- programs wouldn't even know that they were working with a compressed file, it would just show up as another filesystem. I know I've come across such a thing before , I've just been unable to find it. |
