X Fonts Issues

I am having numerous problems with font character sets in X. For example when I try to run xmms from desktop it appears to do nothing, when I run it in a terminal window (to get output) it seg faults and gives this error:

Segmentation fault.

Anyone have any insight into a fix for this problem? If anyone knows what gzinc (front end for zinc) is, it also outputs the same errors. Any ideas? Thanks -
