interesting - OTOH, unreal2004 is somewhat old. How does it perform on more recent programs? and how does it perform on older hardware? the driver is used by a fermi card...

Sad that you can't be happy on that.
it's still version 0.0.16.
this is a masterpeace of programming to me. i didn't expect that they come so far anyway. |

it is not that I am not happy, it is more, that this single example does not prove anything.
It feels like shooting with cannon on sparrows (German expression: Mit Kanon auf Spatzen schiessen)
a fermi card has much more power that the average card, when the game was released, and it have a much larger instruction set. this only says, that 7 year old code runs fast on a recent card - nothing more.

What? What does my comment shoot at? For me it feels different. I am just wondered that an open source driver appears, without having any specs from the manufracturer (in this case nvidia) - and that it runs ut2004 faster than nvidias. It's more unstable - as far as I know. And it's just for linux. Maybe nvidia runs faster on windows. However.
I don't know how nvidia thinks about this, but for me it's just a little wonder.
Maybe they'll pay these coders for optimizing their own drivers. |

It's very first development but promisses a lot.

I am still wondering about how small nouveau-gallium is.
Code: | x11-drivers/xf86-video-nouveau
Size of files: 131 kB
x11-base/nouveau-drm
Size of files: 1,778 kB
|
Code: | x11-drivers/nvidia-drivers
Size of files: 110,235 kB |
