Hello,

I've been following this guide:
http://pptpclient.sourceforge.net/howto-gentoo.phtml

Based on this, I have been able to successfully connect to the VPN using "pon $TUNNEL" and add a routing rule to give me access to the network. However, there are some open questions hopefully you all can help with:

- Is there an appropriate way to set this up via /etc/init.d/net.ppp0 scripts? (assume this would also involve changes to /etc/conf.d/net) ... many of the HOWTOs in this regard are conflicting and the pptpclient HOWTO does not specifically address it.

- Would the Gentoo networking scripts replace pon somehow?

- When connecting to the VPN, it properly fetches an IP Address and Gateway, but does not fetch DNS servers. How can this be automated? When connecting to this same network from a Windows machine, the DNS servers are automatically pulled.

Thanks!

I followed this gentoo wiki page when setting up pptp. It's got some good tips for setting up init scripts at the bottom.

I've never needed the DNS info from the VPN server myself, so I don't know the answer to your other question.

Edit: from the pppd manpage it looks like it might work if you add "usepeerdns" to your pppd_ppp0 options in your /etc/conf.d/net file
