|
|
Fairly simple question, is there anyway I can install Skype on my hardened profile without portage blocking it.
As most of you already know, Skype is blocked from being installed on hardened profiles(I think it was a problem with Pax?)
Code: | The following mask changes are necessary to proceed:
#required by skype (argument)
# /usr/portage/profiles/hardened/linux/package.mask:
# Can't be used on hardened. See upstream,
# http://developer.skype.com/jira/browse/SCL-616
>=net-im/skype-2.2.0.35-r1
|
I wanted to mess with it and try to see if I could get it to run. A few people have proposed workarounds, but I can't figure out how to even install it. It may just be impossible but if any of you have any ideas, I'd love to here them.
I'd like to video chat with my friends on Windows and OS X through Skype, which I'm assuming is only possible with Skype since it's a closed source protocol. If I'm wrong and another client would work, that would be just as good.
Edit: Atm I can just change profiles, install Skype, switch back to hardened, and run Skype with no problem.

Put into /etc/portage/profile/package.mask:
Note that the text (except for "-") must match exactly the entry in the profile/.../package.mask file. |
