Hi,

I am struggling with xfce + proper shutdown for days now but I still got no working solution. As described in different other posts before, the shutdown and reboot buttons remain grey in the logout popup.

Regretfully non of the previous posts solved my problem. I already:

- upgraded the xfdesktop version from 4.8.2 to 4.8.3
- added my user to the power group
- allowed my user with the help of sudo to acces xfms-shutdown-helper without pw
- adapted my .xinitrc file to use ck-launch-session and so on

Nevertheless I still don't have a working gui shutdown.

I would be very glad if someone could push me in to the right direction.

Thansk in advance,
wolfclaw

The one thing I know of that causes this is not having PAM installed - consolekit and everything that uses it will just silently break if that's the case.

Latest slim warning :
Quote:

$ grep ewarn /portage/trees/gentoo/x11-misc/slim/slim-1.3.2-r6.ebuild
ewarn "Please note that the slim session start script now supports consolekit"
ewarn "directly, via xinitrc.d scripts. Please remove any existing work-arounds to"
ewarn "avoid multiple calls to ck-launch-session."
ewarn
ewarn "You should also remove the 'nox11' flag from the pam_ck_connector.so module "
ewarn "in /etc/pam.d/system-login if you have not already done so."
ewarn "(this is safe, it will be default in the next version of pambase)"

Did you pay attention to this warning ?
If ck-launch-session is called multiple times during startup, shutdown, reboot and others buttons will be disabled in the logout popup.
Please post the output of ck-list-sessions.

Hi,

thanks for your answers so far. Didn't find the nox11 flag in the file you stated.

Code:
shakuras ~ # ck-list-sessions
Session1:
   unix-user = '1000'
   realname = '(null)'
   seat = 'Seat2'
   session-type = ''
   active = FALSE
   x11-display = ':0.0'
   x11-display-device = ''
   display-device = ''
   remote-host-name = ''
   is-local = TRUE
   on-since = '2011-10-22T11:55:51.021559Z'
   login-session-id = ''

See this thread. You should rebuild your kernel with CONFIG_AUDITSYSCALL=y and CONFIG_USB_SUSPEND=y.
Please rebuild it and try again.

Hi again,

I re-configured the kernel but regretfully the buttons are still not usable

Code:

shakuras u6f6o # zgrep  -E 'AUDITSYSCALL|PM_RUNTIME|USB_SUSPEND' /proc/config.gz
CONFIG_AUDITSYSCALL=y
CONFIG_PM_RUNTIME=y
CONFIG_USB_SUSPEND=y

I did not noticed this before, but .... your system is NOT up-to-date. Please update it.
Latest slim (1.3.2-r6) has builtin consolekit support through its startup scripts. See my first answer on this thread :
