Where are things at with the 1.11.x xorg-server and the ABI support issue with the nvidia driver? |

What improvements do you experience with xorg-server-1.11.1
vs. 1.10.4?
thanks. _________________ .... there is nothing - absolutely nothing - half so much worth

I wonder too.
In fact the only difference i could remember from X is the introduction of composite that really change something (i don't consider hal or udev an xorg part, but i agree we could assume using them in X add a plus).
I never really check Changelog for xorg, but i suppose (except the xf86-drivers) it should be hard to see any. |

None really, I haven't run any tests. The only thing I need is VDPAU. It just works, although I had to recompile MythTV. I'm hoping nvidia-drivers will catch up soon so I don't have to deal with downgrade.
My card is 8500 GT, it's possible newer cards may have issues. _________________ My Gentoo installation notes.

Works fine
Nvidia 285.05.09 needed revert-trapezoids.patch, but 290.03 doesn't.
I also use Arch's git patches - see Arch's xorg-server. |

That's good to hear - hopefully 290.03 gets added into portage soon. |

Forget Nvidia 290.03, it's why flash keeps crashing.
So back to Nvidia 285.05.09, and revert-trapezoids.patch for me.
Edit: Haha, Arch are so bleeding-edge that they've just moved to 1.11.1.901 as stable (I can't even see a signoff thread). So you'll have to look through their git history. |

So for the moment there isn't really an in-portage solution, yet? _________________ .sigs waste space and bandwidth |

Naaah. On the system I'm concerned with, there's embedded Radeon, and I have an nVidia 8800GT ready to throw in. I'll probably set VIDEO_CARDS="radeon nouveau", build the appropriate kernel, and test with the embedded Radeon in. Then install the 8800GT and test that with nouveau.
I think I'll hold off on the nVidia binary until something is in Portage that works with both kernel-3.x and xorg-server-1.11. _________________ .sigs waste space and bandwidth |
