Man what a pain in the ass! Finally found this issue after trying everything in the fscking book and on the forums here today. Had my Netgear (piece of crap) firewall/route go out on me and had to hook directly into my cable modem. Anyways the CableTV guys don't like you setting static IPs (don't ask me how they do it but it will not work with a static IP, think the modem is looking for a DHCP request or something), so I had to setup DCHP. And of course it would not lease a address. So after screwing around with net, host, grub acpi ect.. . It dawned on me to look and see what my NIC speed was setup for and it was setup for 100 full. You would think in this day and age that they would spend the extra .50 cents and make these NICs in the cable modems 100baseT, I know they won't run at that speed but still. Anyways set it down to 10 half with mii-tool and low and behold it is working. Hope this maybe helps someone in here. |
