I'm using SMPlayer as an mplayer front-end. Testing a DVD of "Friends", Season 1, I notice the following things I would like to improve:

1. Jerkiness in full-screen mode (or even when SMPlayer is maximized).

2. I would like full-sceen mode to stretch the entire width and height of my 16:10 monitor.

How should I address these? I'm even open to using other mplayer front-ends.

I don't think the performance issues have anything to do with the frontend, but instead with the backend.

I know, which is why I made sure I mentioned I'm using mplayer, and that SMPlayer is only a GUI. I assume that if this can be fixed, it can be fixed by passing params to mplayer.

1) What mplayer version?
2) Which video output backend is mplayer using?
3) GPU / video card?
4) video driver version?
5) What kind of files are problematic? (resolution, encoding, etc.)

On a hunch, I used Xfce's "Display" dialog to change the resolution to 800x600 and the video played smoothly in full-screen mode.

Go figure.
