I want to use wireless to downlad stage3 and friends.
But the install live cd does not (?) recognize it.
Any ideas?

Try using a different LiveCD to boot the laptop from, there are tons out there, find one that supports your wireless card (you'll have to slightly tweak the instructions as you work through them from the handbook, but it should be fairly obvious).
This is possible because you chroot into a new environment during the install after having booted from the live disc. _________________ "Science is what we understand well enough to explain to a computer. Art is everything else we do." - Donald Knuth |

Yes. SystemRescueCD has much better wireless support than the Gentoo Install CDs. It's Gentoo-based and supports a flawless Gentoo Handbook guided install.

Check dmesg for any interesting messages. The only thing I can think of is that the install media lacks the necessary firmware, check /lib/firmware/ for iwlwifi-6*.ucode files. If they're not there, use some other livecd, you don't actually need the official install media to install Gentoo, you can use anything you want. SystemRescueCD is usually recommended.
Edit: Bah, beaten by two replies. Only because I wanted to check intellinuxwireless.org to find out which exact firmware is necessary, but the stupid page won't load. |

SystemRescueCD 2.4.0 did the trick. |
