Hi - I replaced my motherboard with an Asus M5A97 and now I get a kernel panic on boot:
"kernel panic - not syncing : VFS: unable to mount root FS on unknown-block".
All hardware other than the MB and memory are the exact same as before (including the boot drive and the kernel used to boot)
At first I thought my new MB might need a new sata driver then my old one, so I marked all of the sata drives I could find in the kernel to Y.
But I still get this error and am stumped. I can boot off various rescue CDs just fine so I don't think it's a hardware issue.
I have raid1 setup on my root drive and have tried booting as
linux kernel-2.6.37.2s root=/dev/md123 ro
and also trying to read from the drive directly to eliminate any raid issues (although booting from raid worked fine up til the new MB)
linux kernel-2.6.27.2s root=/dev/sda2 ro
Been banging my head against the wall for hours on this one. Thanks in advance for any advice!
