I'm a newbie and my doubt is how to find out a software and it's source code.....if they are available on gentoo's packages?

Source files are located in /usr/portage/distfiles, usually compressed _________________ "Dear Enemy: may the Lord hate you and all your kind, may you be turned orange in hue, and may your head fall off at an awkward moment."

Thanks. But for that mustn't one have the distro installed? I'm trying to find it on gentoo package repository or something similar if there's any when the distro is not installed. I want to check out the package and source code repository to find out if the software cum sourcecode i'm looking for was ever included/distributed through Gentoo from the year 2008?

You can download packages from one of the Gentoo mirrors:
