Hi!

I'm currently installing Gentoo under KNOPPIX LIVE CD and I'm following the handbook, along with the alternative install instructions. But, when I input the CHROOT command (chroot /mnt/gentoo /bin/env -i TERM=$TERM /bin/bash) I recieve this error (chroot: failed to run command `/bin/env': Exec format error)

What's wrong?

Thanks :D

/bin/env is wrong, you want to execute a shell which is /bin/bash.

Mmm now the error code says:

chroot: failed to run command `/bin/bash': Exec format error

You also want to follow the official Handbook on your first attempt.

Well, you probably downloaded the wrong stage3 tarball then. What architecture you are trying to install and what tarball you downloaded? Also, you need to boot with correct arch.

Is the Knoppix CD you booted from a 64-bit CD? It needs to be if you're going to install that stage3.

Oh, KNOPPIX is 32-bits. So, should I redownload the tarball, but this time not for amd64?

EDIT: or should I continue using a 64-bit LIVE CD?

You should make up your mind, IMHO 64-bit is the way to go if your hardware supports it, get some 64-bit liveCD to boot from.
