Hello guys!
This isn't exactly a installation problem, as the installation went smoothly. However, after installation, I've discovered that I've accidently set my system up for i686, instead of x86_64. I've tried following http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/change-chost.xml with no luck.

Any help would be appreciated greatly, I've scoured the internet for hours trying to find a solution. It's beginning to look like the only possible way to fix is a new install.

Thanks!

Conventional wisdom is that it will be much less trouble to reinstall with an amd64 stage than it would be to try an in-place conversion. Sometimes, people show up and claim to have done a conversion. However, the steps to do that are much more complex than just starting over. You may want to save your existing /etc as a reference, since that is where most of your customizations were written.

Welcome to Gentoo.

Thats one of those

errors. There is no upgrade path from 32 bit to 64 bit, so you need to start again with a liveCD that provides a 64 bit kernel, since you cannoy do a 64 bit install while running a 32 bit kernel.

On the positive side, stay with the 32 bit install if you have 2Gb RAM or less. With more or if you expect to add more, just start again.
You can save some of your settings from /etc but go careful reusing make.conf as some of the content is arch specific, e.g. CHOST=
