Hello-
I have a Sun Netra T5220 Server (Sparc). I want to boot the system with a CD but not install the OS. I downloaded the sparc iso file and created a CD. When I power up the system I get to the "ok" prompt and insert my boot CD. I then type "boot cdrom" then at the prompt I type in gentoo and the system begins to start the load procedure. However, the load freezes (stops) when I get a message that says: " attempting to mount media: -/dev/sr0" I believe this is the cdrom. I tried the "nodetect" option when I kicked off gentoo and got by that message and then got a similar message saying: "attempting to mount media: -/dev/sda1". I believe it is looking for the OS which is on the CD. Any ideas as to how to boot this system?
Background info: it is a new system and I cannot connect it to the internet. I need to bring up a minimal OS in order to create mount points thatwill allow me to image the disks, we do this all the time on V240s with no problem but this is our first experience with a 5220.
Thank you,
-dave |

Moved from Installing Gentoo to Gentoo on Sparc.
I've moved this thread to the SPARC forum so you are more likely to get help.
We used to have an issue with the CD booting, but afaik that was fixed. From that error message it seems the system is unable to mount the CD. Can you burn another one to test if it's a medium issue? _________________ Jorge.
