simple login manager with default user?

If I'm not totally blind by now, XDM - which I currently use - doesn't support defining a default user, slim is more or less dead (last release 1.5 years ago), GDM and KDM are way to heavy and lightdm doesn't deserve it's name one bit and enter isn't ready to be enter'd. Oh, just found lxdm, but it wants consolekit.

Any other options I missed? Ideally, I just want a single field for password entry(like with screenlockers), some flexibility like running conky or the like on it would be nice, but is no must.

Slim is not dead, just unmaintained, but it works fine for me and has the 'default user' option.

Yeah. Slim is still alive, at least in gentoo land. Works with consolekit if you want it to.

Meh, that's too bad, no one seems to know another solution. Don't like to create images for this and not being able to show some basic statusdata also sucks
