|
|
I installed Gentoo using the live-cd and the development-sources.
I compiled the kernel manually.
But during boot he can't find the module for my network card (eepro100).
This is the first kernel giving problems by finding the module.
I compiled the kernel several times with eepro100 built in , but I also tried it several time as module.
Errors during boot are :
Code: |
...
eth0: unknown interface: No such device
SIOCSIFNETMASK: No such device
* ERROR: Problem starting needed services.
* "netmount" was not started
|
Do not tell me to configure my device correct because I know hot to do it.
This is not a device-configuration problem but a kernel or a module problem which I can't get fixed.
it's added in /etc/modules.autoload.d/kernel-2.6
My driver isn't in :
/lib/modules/2.6.7/kernel/drivers/net
Though I can find other drivers over there like the hp100 and the ne2k-pci but they won't work for me...
Why doesn't the eepro100 or the e100 work? |

Does your network card work with the livecd?
If not, what output do you receive from dmesg? |

my card has been doing this a lot lately too. It has to do with overheating in my case. Poorly designed card and the bad stroke of heat... Try turning off your computer for half an hour and pull off your case sides. |

As I stated before it works perfect on the Live CD and on other Kernels.
It's a laptop and it's not a case of overheating. |

did you settle with a new kernel? If it's just the one kernel you should file a bug report with the maintainer and try a new set. |

this problems been around and is very common but also rarely solved. it could be an ACPI issue, a IRQ issue, and a few other things. |

I think the problem is caused during compiling the kernel.
Some sources are not compiled. |

fine there are many others with this problem too. Glad I'm not the only one.
the ACPI=off doesn't work for me because if I pass this as a boot option, my Gentoo hangs up during boot.
Any suggestions???? |
