|
|
Hi,
I am trying to install xfree(emerge xfree).
However, its size during compilation uses up all my /tmp partition before it is done. I tried stopping the process and moving some of its folders and replacing them with symlinks but for some reason unknowm to me it finds problems with the symlinks.
I am currently changing the filesystem of /tmp from resierfs to ext2, hoping for more space this way.
Has anyone run into this problem ?
Does anyone have any other ideas for a workaround ?
PS: this is my first gentoo install.

There's a config option in /etc/make.conf (PORTAGE_TMPDIR) to set the place where temp files are stored during compilation, if you have spare room somewhere else, set it to point there.
Also, to gain space, you can safely delete the files in /usr/portage/distfiles, that's the place where the packages are downloaded before installing. Be sure not to delete the Xfree ones or you'll have to get them again.
BTW: changing from reiser to ext2 will use more space since small files (like source and related) will eat up more phisical blocks. _________________ I am Beta, don't expect correct behaviour from me.
