Howdy,

Hope my enquiry is in the right section...any how, I am trying to install KDE ie emerge -k kde but am getting the following compile time error

Code:
Error: kde-base/kdelibs-3.1.4 failed.
Function Kde_src_compile, line 137, Exit Code 2
died running emake, Kde_src_compile: make

if anybody has any ideas please let me know...If installed Gentoo from stage1...could it have something to do with CFLAGS...I have Intel P4 and set CFLAGS to -march=pentium4 -mmmx -msse -msse2 -mfpmath=sse -02 -fomit-frame-pointer....This is all I can think of...am using gentoo-sources kernel...Oh yeah and I turned preemptive kernel option ON.

As awlays any help is much appreciated

Well, no, this isn't the right forum. This kind of stuff goes into Portage & Programming.

Anyway, since you are trying to use emerge -k, you have to have PKGDIR set. PKGDIR points to the dir where you have the precompiled packages.

Example:

Code:
export PGKDIR=/mnt/cdrom/packages
emerge -k kde

You can also uncomment and edit the PKGDIR line in make.conf file so you don't have to export it every time.

Since the issue deals with KDE, it is perfectly acceptable to be in the DE forum. P&P is acceptable as well. Encouraging cross posting is not acceptable though. In the future, please refer to Report posts that may be duplicates, or need to be moved. if you feel a thread is posted in the wrong location.

RossBob: Sorry for the confusion (I moved your P&P post to the Duplicates thread).
