Hi, everyone. So I finally getting around to installing Gentoo on my main pc. I want to automount a Samba share at boot up (fstab) using a credentials file as root (don't wanna change permissions on mount.cifs or credentials file), but provide full rwx to a particular user. No domain. I've been searching, I'm not being lazy.

I was trying to use a generic machinename in the credentials file, so i didn't have to create multiple files containing passwords, even if they are only readable by root. creating separate ones works, im fine with that.
using active username in .credentials worked. |
