not a great solution by any means, but i just ran into this problem and switching my opengl implementation from nvidia to xorg-x11 allowed me to compile cairo:
eselect opengl set 2 (xorg-x11)
update:
merely toggling the opengl implementation from xorg-x11 back to nvidia seems to have done the trick. I now have /usr/lib64/libEGL* files linked from /usr/lib64/opengl/xorg-x11/lib/libEGL* |

I just rebuilt out of curiosity and mesa-8.0 and cairo-1.10.2-r2 build fine. |
