Here's a post I recently made at DevShed:

http://forums.devshed.com/t87191/s.html

If that doesn't work it's under Forums -> Linux -> "No suitable terminal device found."

Okay, so here's the basic rundown in case you're too lazy to read that post. My 2.4.22 kernel runs beautifully while my 2.6.0-test6 (AND -test5 for that matter) both tell me "No suitable terminal device found" when I need to use Konsole/Xterm and that the program 'su' can't be found when I ever need to enter my root password. Any ideas?

I've seen this come up before. Make sure your kernel has Unix98 PTY support compiled in (or as a module).

CONFIG_UNIX98_PTYS

From the kernel 'make menuconfig' help screen:

Quote:
A pseudo terminal (PTY) is a software device consisting of two
halves: a master and a slave. The slave device behaves identical to
a physical terminal; the master device is used by a process to
read data from and write data to the slave, thereby emulating a
terminal. Typical programs for the master side are telnet servers
and xterms.

Oh and I forgot to mention, as you'll read in the 'help', make sure you enable "/dev/pts file system for Unix98 PTYs" too.

Yes it's enabled by default but I have seen this problem before where the user accidentally (or inadvertantly) disabled it.

I wondered if that was it. Thanks a bunch!

I'll try it out soon and see how well it works. Also, one more quick question: Even though net.eth0 is added to my default runlevel I always have to dhcpcd eth0 by hand, and this is cumbersome. Is there any way (other than editing dhcpcd eth0 into the script) of making my card recognize on kernel loadup?

Thanks again.
