Hi,
I've got Dell Vostro 3750 (i7/GF525M) and what concerns me is very short life on battery - ~1.5h. Here's what powertop says in idle:
Code: | Cn Avg residency P-states (frequencies)
C0 (cpu running) ( 0.0%) Turbo Mode 0.0%
polling 0.0ms ( 0.0%) 2.00 Ghz 0.0%
C1 mwait 3.5ms ( 2.4%) 1.91 Ghz 0.0%
C2 mwait 0.4ms ( 0.0%) 1.80 Ghz 0.0%
C3 mwait 0.0ms ( 0.0%) 800 Mhz 100.0%
C4 mwait 32.9ms (98.2%)
Wakeups-from-idle per second : 37.4 interval: 15.0s
Power usage (ACPI estimate): 35.4W (0.5 hours)
Top causes for wakeups:
41.4% (107.2) [Rescheduling interrupts] <kernel IPI>
27.1% ( 70.2) [i915] <interrupt>
11.7% ( 30.4) [iwlwifi] <interrupt>
3.5% ( 9.1) [ehci_hcd:usb1] <interrupt>
3.5% ( 9.0) USB device 1-1.1 : USB2.0-CRW (Generic)
2.6% ( 6.8) plasma-desktop
1.5% ( 4.0) conky
1.5% ( 4.0) kwin
1.4% ( 3.7) [ahci] <interrupt>
1.3% ( 3.4) [TLB shootdowns] <kernel IPI>
1.1% ( 2.7) swapper/0
0.8% ( 2.0) swapper/4 |
From what I read it's normal amount of wakeups, but power consumption is very high despite that. I wonder if this can be somehow reduced, or it's just that this model is so power-hungry? _________________ ncmpcpp - featureful ncurses based MPD client inspired by ncmpc |

If the laptop is a dual boot machine, you could try to test the battery life using the other OS. But to be honest, 1.5 hrs is not too bad. I have a Compaq which never managed more than 50 minutes on battery, even when it was new |
