Hello again! I have gentoo 3.2.1 installed with LXDE and everything boots, but wireless does not work. As I was trying different fixes on the forums for ath5k (it is enabled in the kernel, I double checked) I managed to get rid of wlan0. Now I really do not know what to do, but I noticed that system rescue CD has a large output from lsmod, including ath5k. My install has nothing on the list from lsmod. Also system rescue CD has a nice logo for RC while booting, mine does not. I emerged wpa supplicant and network manager, but only the first one appears in gui. Where to start?

Yes, AR242x comes up and is supported. It works great on system rescue CD. I guess I don't understand why all these mods come up on system rescue CD, which runs great on this Asus laptop but when I boot into gentoo, which is the only os, lsmod shows nothing. I think that is a problem. Also I wonder where wlan0 went and how to get it back. Thanks for the help. |

I think I found the problem, or a problem. Hard drive failed! No biggie as it was a small hard drive that I was not using anymore. I am not sure how a failing hard drive would affect the install of Gentoo, but I am sure that it can't be good! Oh well, back to the drawing board with a fresh install. Thanks again for the help. |
