Ok, installed it again !
This time I have the following.
hda1 - windows xp install
hda2 - boot
hda3 - swap
hda4 - root
I pretty much followed the install guide to the letter, but everytime i was supposed to use hda1, I used hda2, (added 1 to each number)
Now, when booting, i get a black screen with "Invalid partition table"
Any ideas ? _________________ Owned by Gentoo. |

What stage of the boot process results in the black screen? Can you see any evidence that GRUB is running?
If so, what does your grub.conf look like? |

Hi ,
pretty much, but not quite<g>
grub is confusing with its different device numbering . You say lower you've cracked it but for any others reading:
hda becomes (hd0)
hda1 becomes (hd0,0) etc.
Dont install grub to (hda0,0) if you mean the MBR , this should be setup (hd0)
IN GENERAL READ THE x86 INSTALL GUIDE: this had been recently rewritten and is much, much clearer and more helpful. |
