I setup Gentoo on an HP Pavilion ze5300 from stage 1. At first, the live cd froze when it was going through the step that says "USB and PCI hotplugging". So I booted with the "nohotplug" option, which allowed the live cd to boot and then manually loaded my network driver.
After stage 3 (I built the kernel successfully), upon reboot it froze in the same spot. I thought, "ok, just need to turn off the hotplugging again." So I booted back up with the live cd, mounted my boot partition, edited the grub.conf file so that the kernel line had the "acpi=off nohotplug" options attached (I looked at dmesg from the live cd boot and this is what it had, although it wasn't the only thing). I then saved the .conf file, rebooted, same thing .
What gives? |

Hi,
I have a similar effect since plugin a GeForce into my system.
The GeForce and the USB Control have the same IRQ and that seems to make the kernel choke on boot.
If I disable the USB Controller in the BIOS then my system boots fine.
I know this probably doesn't help you much, but maybe it's the same problem and you have another idea.
