|
|
After much searching I have to ask. In preparation for the big change I've decided to move to dracut. I'm wondering if I can keep my gentoo-source kernels as well or if dracut will cause a problem.
Any suggestions would be helpful as I intend to transfer to a new hdd if I can. This will include adding LVM2 as well.
Thanks.

I don't see why not.
dracut is initrd building system, and gentoo-sources is a lightly patched linux kernel. _________________ read the portage output!

Works just fine -- I'm using it on one system to easily support dm-crypt loading a keyfile from USB. You just need to properly specify the kernel version when running dracut (i.e., `dracut "" 3.2.21-gentoo`). |

Thanks for your responses!!
I very obviously have failed to grasp exactly what dracut is.
Once again the Gentoo Users offer great help. Thanks!
I have to make a closing remark. I've seen many disparaging remarks about Gentoo. I plan to install CENTOS along side Gentoo to work on
LPI certifications. Gentoo is my primary distro and will continue to be as I have learned much more with Gentoo than others I have used.
Thanks again. |

Be careful, LPI is not a RedHat certificate. They rather test vanilla GNU userland and Linux information, not any RedHat added scripts like 'service', 'dracut' etc. (but they ask about common installer like rpm, apt-get or just make) _________________ Gentoo on Uptime Project - Larry is a cow |
