Calm. It isn't important at all. I have same release too. The profiles are a noob side.

Assuming you're running "emerge --sync && emerge --update world" (or something equivalent) regularly, there's no need to do anything.

Gentoo is a rolling system; no matter what version you started with, provided you update regularly, you'll remain up to date. The "Gentoo 12" is just a snapshot of the system at a particular time, so that there are fewer changes between a freshly-installed system and current.

AFAIK, the profile numbers don't change in step with the releases; the 10 profiles were created in 2010, but haven't been superseded.

Your kernel is the latest stable kernel.

I get the same output to those commands as you, and I updated only a week ago.

Beware - if you have NOT been running "emerge --update" regularly, you may have problems because of too many interdependent changes outstanding. Please come back here and ask for advice if that's the case. Even more so if you've never updated.

yes I run "emerge -DNu world" every day... so my system is updated with "last release"?

I'm using also Fedora Linux and there I must to run "preupgrade" to skip from a release to release+1 ;)
But, it is true, that Gentoo is a rolling release... ;

thank you so much!

You don't need to do anything special. You'll be fine. Note that the version number just apply to the live media that you use to operate while installing Gentoo. You could be using ubuntu or anything else and the final result would be the same, only depending on your setiings, USE flags, etc.

There's nothing odd, irrelevant or stupid in your question. It's perfectly valid, and you wasn't the first person to ask it. So don't worry, and continue asking as much as you need. That's what forums, mailings lists and IRC are there for, in first place. :D
