kernel compilation. (drivers issue)

all my previous kernels booted but had issues like no usb ,cd ,dvd and weaker sound output. (using hardened-sources)

all the tips i got in previous threads from you guys were great, but im still lost.

partitioning:

(single sata 160gb hdd )

/dev/sda1 jfs boot 128M
/dev/sda2 xfs root

i have a problem or two with usb-cd and dvd (the led light up and the disc spins but nothing eles happens) and my sound output is half what i was used to have before.

What sort of discs do you uhavein the drive?

i used genkernel with initramfs
