Hello,
currently I run gentoo on a MacBook 5,1 but I'd like to buy some newer hardware. The main reason is not performance but keyboard, screen size (just 13" at the moment) and battery.
However I don't want to give relatively much money for a new machine without having a recognizable performance boost so I'd like to now how good i3 and especially the i3-2350m will run with gentoo. Will I have to wait the whole night for a new firefox (pgo), too?
Best regards,
Sebastian |

sbechtel,
I've been looking into purchasing a new machine and did some processor comparisons. According to this site , you'll get more bang for the buck with an Intel Core i5-2400.
I'm not at all familiar with MacBooks, but I suspect that you'll notice a significant improvement especially with a Core i5.
Good luck |

Rumor has it Ivy Bridge comes out on the 23rd, so I would wait and see what gets released. And yes, it will be a lot faster than a MBP 5,1… my i5-2540M (2.6 GHz before turbo boost) compiles Chromium 82% faster than a 2.53 GHz Core 2 Duo, and Thunderbird 56% faster. |
