Hi everybody,
Just to let you know that I installed Gentoo on my Toshiba Satellite 4010CDT (PII 266, 96Mb RAM). Until now everything works fine . I installed with a 3COM PCMCIA "normal" Ethernet card, and then switched to my D-Link DWL-650 wireless card using the provided orinoco_cs driver. The DWL-650 works very well until now even if it's a bit slow (with my previous distros it just stopped working from time to time, especially under heavy LAN use such as scp, so working but a bit slow is great!). XFree86 runs just fine (Blackbox at the moment).
If you are interested I'll let you know how it goes for sound and other things!

Hello,
I have almost the same machine, except by the pcmcia ethernet card. I use an Encore etherner pcmcia adapter (Realtek RT8139).
I installed Gentoo yesterday as my first try in the linux world and aftre 3 instalations, almost everything seems to work fine, but two devices are more complicated to work:
- The Yamahar OPL3-SAx sound card
- The pcmcia ethernet card
The sound is not working at all I tryed to emerge ALSA, but I don't know what to do next. The pcmcia seems to be working (the led goes on during the boot), but the eth0 is not up accordind to ifconfig.
Could you help me, please?
Thank you!
