|
|
Hi,
Trying to get Gnome3 to work, but when I start it from GDM I get a error with a list of options for things I can try turning off. I've tried turning them all off, but no joy. I get the results below in the log file, but not sure where to go from here.
Thanks,
Jim

I have a similar issue, but with the addition that the greeter never starts. However, in the off chance that this will help, let me quote myself:
If I stop gdm and run startx &> output with a gnome session as a user I get the fail whale. I can then go back, look at my startx &> output log and create the keyring-xxxxxx dir (with the appropriate owners & permissions) that it wants. Then I can again startx and the gnome-shell loads.
Maybe the GDM keyring is not working properly? |

Hi,
Could you give me a example of the name permissions, and location of the keyring directory!

You can try a different login manager than gdm, like kdm. At least you can narrow the problem down to gdm, if that works. I use kdm and have no problem with cinnamon or gnome3. _________________ Anyway it's all the same at the end...
Need help to get it working: "x-fi surround 5.1" |

You could also check if user You're trying to log in via gdm is in video group. I had the symptoms just like You did and the problem was solved by adding user to video group thus allowing him to use acceleration. |

The location depends on your setup (perhaps this is where my problem lies), after I made a change it moved from /tmp/keyring- to /tmp/.private/user/keyring-, I believe this change was tmpfs ACL, under pseudo filesystems in the kernel (I have /tmp on tmpfs). I was doing a lot of troubleshooting that day though so that may not have been the changed responsible. It didn't help the problem so I didn't take much note of it. Regardless, just look at the output of startx to find the location and name.
For the owner of the folder, I believe I used user:polkituser. |
