Just doing a new Gentoo install (having done many previously but a number of years ago) and I don't recall in the distant past seeing automake and libtool take sooooo long to install. It seems to be when it does the "test suite" install/checks. All I wanted to do was emerge grub and it's taken well over a couple of hours!

Any thoughts?

Have you looked at "top" while compiling? Maybe another process is hogging the CPU.

No it's not doing anything else. Almost entirely running the emerge.
