Now that the Firefox 3.6 series is being removed from the tree, has anyone come across a suitable replacement? I don't think Mozilla themselves care about sparc anymore. I've found some versions of newer firefoxes that run on sparc systems, but they're Solaris only and don't seem to have source available.
It'd be nice to use a browser that's newer than "links". |

I don't doubt that it can be done. It's just not in the default portage tree. Is there an overlay available somehwere? Or some other method of building it? |

You're right, it is even not part of test branch

Sure, the "old" way : take the sources from Mozilla repo, ensure all dependancies are met and ... configure/make ... |

Tried both the "old" way with configure and make and unmasking the ebuild in portage, still doesn't build. The ebuild seems to get farther though, possibly because of the patches it applies. I found a build for solaris/opensolaris here http://unixpackages.com/packages/mozilla and I seem to recall some way of running solaris binaries, but I don't know the exact method. |

The problem with firefox on sparc is that apart from failing to build, which can be fixed easily, is that anything newer than firefox-4 sigbuses, which requires some knowledge of programming and firefox source code to fix...
Mozilla isn't interested in it because sparc isn't a mainstream arch, so... |
