|
|
Hi there... I'm having problems with filenames being shortened in gentoo. I have the ut2003 install disks but when viewed in linux, the dirs on the CD have been shortened. I think this is causing problems when it tries to copy from the CD.
Even with disks I've burnt myself, they only show as 8 characters long. Any ideas at all how I can get gentoo to see the full size filename?
Thanks |

Maybe the CD was written using the MS Joliet extension. Joliet support can be enabled in the Kernel.

Do you think the ut2003 CD would have been made and released on this format? It doesn't make sense considering everyone else seems to have no probs installing ut2003 on linux
So will I need to add this support and recompile?
Thanks |

Honestly, I don't know. Joliet is quite common in the MS world. So it's not unlikely. At least check whetever it's enabled in the Kernel.
I think it's enabled by default. But as a lot of people like to "tweak" their Kernel config....
EDIT: found using Google: http://www.icculus.org/lgfaq/
"First of all, make sure the Joliet extensions are enabled in your kernel since the UT CD was burned using the Joliet extentions for the long filenames, and that you are using the correct installer for your CD. A quick test is to mount the UT CD and list the files on it. If the filenames are all 8 characters or less, and contain tildes (~), then you do not have the Joliet extentions enabled. You will need to recompile your kernel and/or modules to enable the Joliet extentions."

Thanks for you help
I just checked the kernel config menu. It's not built in. I feel dumb. Well, time to get re-compiling
Again, thanks for your help |

Ye you need Ms Joliet support in cdrom in the kernel and that's all i believe. Working great for me. |
