I need help getting pppoe to work. I searched the forums and found one post with examples of how to set it up but the problem is that it requires a plugin pppoe.so that I don't have and can't find. From what I've read it is supposed to come with the ppp package but it doesn't. I have also attempted using rp-pppoe but that doesn't work either. It won't configure because it cannot find pppd even though I have it compiled and can see it in /usr/sbin/pppd. Someone please help. I haven't had the internet in a month and a half and I've resorted to throwing windows on a spare drive just to look for information and post of the forum and windows itself is driving me nuts. I don't know how I ever dealt with it before. |

hi,
check your kernel-configuration:
Code: |
Network device support --->
PPP (point-to-point protocol) support
PPP support for async serial ports (NEW)
PPP over Ethernet (EXPERIMENTAL) (NEW)
|
then:
emerge rp-pppoe
then:
adsl-setup
hope that'll help, greetings

kernel settings are right. i cannot emerge anything anyway because i don't have the internet working. or should i say, i didn't have the internet working. i broke down and just bought a router. i threw windows on a spare drive just to connect to the internet and download source to compile before i bought the router. ppp simply does not come with the pppoe plugin. i downloaded it from two seperate sites but neither of them had it and no matter what i tried rp-pppoe would not recognize that i had the ppp daemon installed. |

Roaring Penguin does not require the kernel mode plugin unless you really want to use kernel mode PPPOE. RP is usually used as a user-space tool. In any case, PPP 2.4.1 most definitely incudes the plugin. Code: | chrisw@ptolemy chrisw $ find /usr/lib -name 'pppoe.so'
/usr/lib/pppd/2.4.1/pppoe.so
chrisw@ptolemy chrisw $ qpkg -f -v /usr/lib/pppd/2.4.1/pppoe.so
net-dialup/ppp-2.4.1-r11 * |
