IBM R40 Centrino - won't wake up again

I have just installed gentoo on my brand new R40 centrino laptop. I'm running kernel 2.6.0-test6. whenever I close the display the laptop goes to sleep mode and I can't seem to wake it up again. but I didn't configure it to go asleep. how can I change this? How can I wake it up again? I always had to power if off an of to get it back
