Can I rebuild the core system after a stage3 install?

Hello,

I have been trying to install Gentoo 1.4 fro the basic ISO image for the past week and a half. I keep getting compilation errors in gcc, java and texinfo. My next attempt will be to install from a stage2 or 3 tarball. But I would like to know, if I do this, can I later rebuild the components that the bootstrap would have built such as gcc?

Thanks, I will try a later stage tarball tonight and run again.
