Hi all,
I've been using gentoo for 5 years or so as of now but I always have been the desktop kind of guy. Somehow, I convinced my employers that we could use one server to accomplish multiple tasks at our company, mainly:
1) Provide file share through the network (Samba)
2) Host our website (LAMP); and
3) Our e-mail (Probably qmail)
4) Host a mysql based application that I'm developing.
The server is a Dell Poweredge T410 with Intel Xeon 5600 series, Two 1TB hitachi sata 2 hd in RAID 1 via sas i6R and 8 GB Ram (The best we could afford).
The thing is that I used to think that partitioning would be ok for host our website and our e-mails and our files in one single server, but thing is I figured (with help from another forum) that this would not be secure and now I can't decide if I should use user-mode linux as described here:
User mode linux
or go for vserver as described here:
Gentoo VServer how to
To virtualize the web site host and the mail server.
So, which one is more suited to this?
Thanks for all help in advance _________________ Running Gentoo with =sys-kernel/vanilla-sources-2.6.39 from i5 2500k @ 4.0ghz, 8gb ddr3 1866 corsair vengeance, ga-ud3-p67-b3, seagate barracuda 1TB 32mb cache, cooler master 460 and Geforce GTX 580 |
