|
|
I am writing this from my Gentoo equiped laptop after 36 hours of install and config, I can now run KDE. Woo Hoo!!
My problem is in following the Alsa installation in the Gentoo documentation, at:
http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/alsa-guide.xml
I have followed all steps without error.
# cd /usr/src/linux
# cp .config ~/
# make mrproper
# cp ~/.config .
# make menuconfig
# make dep clean
# make modules modules_install
# emerge alsa (this is Alsa, utils, and oss)
I get to this point
# modules-update
and it returns this error and quits.

I have no idea what to do being a somewhat newbie to starting linux from the ground up.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,

Error is related to NIC driver
What is your NIC's chipset? |

I am on a dell inspiron 5000e. I have a PCMCIA enet card which is is working...(obviously as I'm posting)
It is a Kingston EtherRxIC. but come to mention it, I do get an error on booting saying something to the effect that Enet is alredy started.
I'll try to get the exact message when I reboot.
Could it be somethig to the effect of trying to start an onboard NIC (which I dont have ) after starting PCMCIA? Or that I have inadvertantly included/configured for NIC and PCMCIA?
Thanks much.... |
