I'v read several posts about usb cameras/mass-storage and I think everything is working correctly. I have a camera with a compact flash card in it. Dmesg says that a usb mass storage device is connecting to sda, it's even got the correct size listed for the card, but when I go to mount it Code: | mount -t vfat /dev/sda1 /mnt/camera | or Code: | mount /dev/sda1 /mnt/camera | it just hangs. Eventually a timeout message shows up in dmesg. Do I need to format the compact flash card before using it or is it something else?

Slurp53,
I have this working just the way you describe with a HP Photosmart 318. It is very picky about being switched on before being connected to the USB.
The FLASH will need to be formated before you can use it but if you already have pictures on it, its been done. the camera can't use it unformatted either.

Problem solved. I went out and bought a cheap PNY compact flash card reader and it read the card with no problems at all
