|
|
hi,
i'm installing gentoo for the first time, using livecd1. The idea is a stage1 install. Since my isp block's port 873, i downloaded the portage tree from a mirror (also the stage1 tarball), and extracted them as mentioned in the install.html.
I followed the install guide till the point of chrooting.
emerge sync or -websync failes (but that's why i downloaded those files first).
finally to come to my problem: i cd to /usr/portage/scripts
when i "ls" i see among other .sh files the "bootstrap.sh" file, colored green (for executable).
HOWEVER: when i type in "bootstrap.sh" it says it doesn't know the command.... like the file isn't there. Also, if i were to type "bootstr" and hit "tab" a few times, it doenst complete the command.
Someone any ideas? _________________ sigs are a waste of bandwidth |

It's not in the executable path -- you need to type ./bootstrap.sh to make Linux see a file in the current directory.
To change this in the future, edit (with nano or something similar) /etc/profile and change the path statement to include ./
And I believe you should be in portage and not portage/scripts... odd as it sounds. Usually when they say something odd, it's for a good reason, like everything has links relative to portage/ and not portage/scripts/
Finally, not to be annoying or anything, but imho stage 1 is a colossal waste of time if this is your first time with Gentoo. Try 2, which is long enough. It took my laptop (granted, an old one) 52 hours to complete stage 1.
Just my advice. |

thanx a million, will try it at once.
the pc i'm installing it is a PIIDeschutes 400 with 384Mb SDR. I'm guessing it won't take more than 48 hours, and i'm a student, so i've got plenty of time. _________________ sigs are a waste of bandwidth |
