Hi Forum,
well, this is my first gentoo-installation, and nearly everything went just fine ...
But now I've installed kde3.1.4, and everything is awfully slow! Mozilla needs 20 seconds to be loaded, the konsole about 6 seconds.
All I've done is emerging kde and mozilla. I've got an AthlonXP2500+, geforce4 ti4200, 512 MB Ram.
Another thing I noticed is that the konsole opens in normal speed the first time I open it (normally before mozilla), but then it takes that long ...
Thanx for your help; I've been searching in this forum for any problem like this, but I didn't find anything.
claudius
ps: I emerged mozilla with USE="qt kde cups -gnome -gtk" ... could this be the reason? I didn't know if I have to emerge everything with these use-variables or only kde (but I read that it builds the programms into kde). _________________ In a world without walls and fences,

Check you have localhost in your /etc/hosts to avoid getting stopped until the dns resolution times out.
Also check you have a up to date font config caches: Run as root fc-cache -av _________________ -=[ bisho [=- |

thanx! I'm trying it now
... and the use-variables? Should I use USE="qt kde cups -gnome -gtk" for emerging all programms, or shouldn't I use them? Thanx a lot! _________________ In a world without walls and fences,

... oh, I forgot: my /etc/hosts looks like this:
127.0.0.1 localhost
192.168.1.123 clc.KILL KENNY.lan
::1 ip6-localhost ip6-loopback
fe00::0 ip6-localnet
ff00::0 ip6-mcastprefix
ff02::1 ip6-allnodes
ff02::2 ip6-allrouters
ff02::3 ip6-allhosts
... Is this o.k.? (sorry for my stupid question ...)
note: if I type fc-cache -av bash tells me: fc-cache: invalid option -- a (and then it lists the usage ...) _________________ In a world without walls and fences,

The /etc/hosts look nice for me.
The option you should use is "-f" (force) istead of -a (sorry) _________________ -=[ bisho [=- |

o.k. ... I've got the solution to this problem:
echo 127.0.0.1 $HOSTNAME > /etc/hosts
fixed the programms-speed issue ... (here: thanx a lot to the great people in www.linuxforen.de ! : -)
thanx anyway! _________________ In a world without walls and fences,
