Nic Card ...traffic reset ?

I have had my gentoo box up for a month or so constantly now ... and I have been D/L quite a bit, but I find that after about 5 gig of D/L the ifconfig command will return a traffic count of less than this .... like the interface has reset ? It's not a terribly big deal but I am curious can anyone shed any light on the senario ???

The amount of traffic is stored as bytes in a normal 32 bit unsigned integer.

2^32 bytes
= 4294967296 bytes
= 4194304 kilobytes
= 4096 megabytes

When the amount of traffic gets above 4096MB it overflows and returns to 0.

I'm pretty sure that's what happens, I haven't actually looked at the code to check...
