I'm having troubles getting my mouse (Logitech Mouseman +) working in X. I've just installed Gentoo 1.1a over the last few days so I have all the latest versions of X etc.
On my debian system I had to use gpm and configure it to use -Rms3 but on Gentoo gpm says that the repeat type ms3, or any other that I try, are not yet implemented. Debian has gpm version 1.19.6 while Gentoo is using 1.20.0. I've tried installing other versions of gpm but I still get the same error. In XF86Config I have the Protocol set to "Microsoft".
#gpm.conf from debian
device=/dev/psaux
responsiveness=
repeat_type=ms3
type=ps2
append=""
So, does anyone know what options I should be using or even better, how to get the mouse working in X without needing gpm.
Thanks,

Hi..
I am using the same mouse. I have mouseman dual optic.
I do not know the gpm is required in X.
Well I do not use the gpm and use the mouse in X.
You should set the protocol to "ImPS/2" and configure the kernel
properly to support USB mouse and make a device file in /dev with
mknod.
wish you succeed |

That is right, you only need gpm if you want mouse support in the console. X handles it differently. |
