hello i ve got a SB digital 4.1. According to the ALSA pages i have to download the ENS1373 driver.

I did this but i get the following message:

Perhaps the name of the driver should be all lowercase?

I think the 4.1 Digital uses the ES1371 chipset, not 1373, so you should use ALSA_CARDS="ens1371". If it uses the 1373, is doesn't matter, they both use the 1371 driver.

did you use ALSA_CARDS="es1371" or ALSA_CARDS="ens1371"? the second one is right, note the 'n' in there.

If it still won't work, just compile alsa without ALSA_CARDS, it will take a little longer but at least it will compile.

Hello

i emerged everything as you said. Everything goes well except one about this unresolvabel link. No idea what it means...

I did

emerge alsa-driver
................**CUT**
..............***CUT** in order to save up some space here

Quote:

--- !empty dir /lib/modules/2.4.20-gaming-r3
--- !empty dir /lib/modules
--- !empty dir /lib
--- !empty dir /etc
>>> original instance of package unmerged safely.
depmod: *** Unresolved symbols in /lib/modules/2.4.20-gaming-r3/kernel/drivers/n
et/starfire.o
*
* You need to edit file /etc/modules.d/alsa according to your
* hardware configuration.
*
* If you are going to be using the 'alsasound' init script, make sure
* that you add it to the 'boot' runlevel (not 'default').
*
* Also, remember that all mixer channels will be MUTED by default.
* Use 'alsamixer' program to unmute them.
*
>>> Regenerating /etc/ld.so.cache...
>>> media-sound/alsa-driver-0.9.2 merged.
>>> Recording media-sound/alsa-driver in "world" favorites file...

>>> clean: No packages selected for removal.

>>> Regenerating /etc/ld.so.cache...
>>> Auto-cleaning packages ...

>>> No outdated packages were found on your system.

* GNU info directory index is up-to-date.
* IMPORTANT: 1 config files in /etc need updating.
* Type emerge --help config to learn how to update config files.

Then i continued with the commamd
modules-update

And then i got this again:
Quote:
depmod: *** Unresolved symbols in /lib/modules/2.4.20-gaming-r3/kernel/drivers/n et/starfire.o

Do you guys have any idea ??

The unresolved symbols is between the starfire nic card and the currently loaded kernel. You must have recompiled your kernel or made other changes to your modules without a reboot. You should be able to just reboot and the symbols error will go away.
