Dear Friends,
I am trying to get GNOME on Gentoo in VMWare player. I have Xorg installed. I even saw an Xterm window come up. I followed the handbook for installing Gnome but the one error I keep having is that when I type startx, I get a message along the lines of:
FATAL: Module vmwgfx not found.
(some stuff and then) gnome-session: not found.
I have searched far and wide on the internet and have found that some people have had this problem but it has never been specific to VMWare. Also, I have installed many packages such as vmware-tools and all the video drivers and such. If anyone knows anything about how to fix this, your help will be greatly appreciated.
Also, I think I need to do something with CONFIG_DRM_VMWGFX because it is not set but I have no idea where that even is in the operating system.
Thanks for reading!
Sincerely,
Matt |

Welcome to Gentoo!
I don't use VMware, but CONFIG_DRM_VMWGFX looks like a kernel config option. If you used genkernel then you will need to build a new kernel using genkernel --menuconfig all and set it. You may need to search for it using the built in search function. _________________ First things first, but not necessarily in that order.
Apologies if I take a while to respond. I'm currently working on the dematerialization circuit for my blue box. |
