(I always use the basic version because I have three very different processors in my three machines and I don't want to have to use the least common denominator.)
I'm a Linux newbie when it comes to understanding what's happening at really low levels, like booting. Some scripts to read the partition information (including what files are installed on what partition) and generate the appropriate boot loader config for either LILO or GRUB (whichever is installed). Perhaps the user could view and accept (continue) or reject (cancel) the layout before the script applies the config. This would be most useful in complex situations like mine, where I've got all my partitions except for swap set up as LVM partitions on a RAID1 (software) partition.
It's painful to get everything compiled and installed, only to not be able to boot.
Otherwise, the basic LiveCD is amazing!!! Extremely satisfied! |
