Maybe this has been suggested before, but there's one thing I feel I'm really missing when doing an emerge -U world or something of the sort. When I upgrade my packages, generally I am doing it for no other reason then because emerge -U world told me to do it. I would love to see what new changes were added to the ebuild so I can take advantage of the new functionality if I want to, or not upgrade if I see nothing of interest. I'm sure this would cut down on the load of the mirrors as well, as less people may choose to upgrade to the bleeding edge every time.
It could work like this: When a packages moves into stable, whomever moved the package in would post the name and the version of the package. Hopefully, the ebuilder would actually know what new changes have been implemented since the previous version.
What do you think? |

I actually had suggested this a while back. I wanted to see changelogs from the current version to the suggested upgrade version by simply specifying some parameter to emerge. I was told that this feature was being worked on. I have not see anythign so far, but I wait patiently. |

Hi!
So why dont you just use it?
From Code: | man emerge
...
--changelog (-l)
Use this in conjunction with the --pretend action. This will
show the ChangeLog entries for all the packages that will be
upgraded.

ok, not too informative much to often, but this is a problem for the ebuild maintainers.
