I am having a very weird problem with skype recently. It seem to "crash" in the sense that it does not deliver messages I received, nor it sends whatever I try to send (I'm talking about text chat here). It does not display any error message or glitch, and sometimes it takes me hours until I realise that it "crashed" this way. The only two ways I found to "detect" this crash are the following:
- when I try to change status. I click the menu, click the new status, but it simply does not change.
- when I try to send a message to someone who is shown as online, and skype reports that it could not deliver.
I haven't find a way to solve the problem. I close skype and open again, but then I just can't log in (it stays in the "logging in" screen forever). I've tried to restart wicd daemon but it does not help either. Nor does turn off the wireless board, reconnect to a different hotspot, disable iptables, relog or anything I could imagine. The only way to fix it is to reboot the computer, or wait (sometimes, 30 min) until the problem disappears into the void and I can log in again.
Since there is no glitch and restarting skype does not help, I'm guessing it is something related to the connection/packages being sent. I considered using wireshark to try to detect anything wrong with the packs being sent/received, but honestly, I wouldn't know what to look for.
Has anyone here ever had a similar problem? Or could at least hint me what I should look for?
Thanks in advance _________________ "Nolite arbitrari quia venerim mittere pacem in terram non veni pacem mittere sed gladium" (Yeshua Ha Mashiach) |
